The organisers of Czech Brew Star have announced that it will return to Mendel University in Brno on 5th February 2027, with capacity for up to 500 entries.
This year, the competition evaluated 444 beers from six countries. For the 2027 edition, Czech Brew Star is placing particular emphasis on the quality of the judging process itself, including blind judging, calibration before the competition, consistency across judging panels, and feedback that participating breweries can use after the event.
Each beer will be judged blind, without information identifying the brewery. Judging panels will comprise three to five judges, and calibration will take place before the competition using non-competition samples.
The aim is for participating breweries to receive an informed external assessment of their beer, and meaningful feedback on its performance in the category.
Czech Brew Star 2027 is a BJCP-registered competition. The competition has strong Czech roots and takes place in a brewing culture closely associated with lager and the Czech brewing tradition. However, Czech Brew Star is not limited to Czech breweries or Czech beer styles. It is an international beer tasting competition open to breweries of different sizes and to a broad range of styles.
“Czech beer culture gives us a strong foundation, but tradition alone does not create a good international competition,” said David Janda, organiser of Czech Brew Star. “Trust is built at the judging table — through the quality of the people involved, calibration, consistency, and whether the brewery receives feedback that is genuinely useful.”
