The Founders of the Rebellion Beer Company in Marlow, Buckinghamshire have completed the transfer of the business to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

This will safeguard the future of the brewery in its current location on Bencombe Farm for years to come.

Tim Coombes and Mark Gloyens established the brewery in Marlow Bottom in 1993. They will continue to be involved over the next few years as the new management team, made up of existing long-term employees, starts to take over the running of the brewery.

The overriding aim of the new EOT is to provide continuity for both the staff and the many loyal local customers of the brewery, and to ensure the ethos and community spirit of Rebellion is maintained in perpetuity.

As part of the transition, the company is looking to launch a Crowdfunding opportunity in early 2027. This will offer supporters of the brewery a chance to invest in the business to continue the development of the company as it enters this new chapter.

This positive news comes in the wake of the recent sad news that Molson Coors has taken the decision to close Sharp’s Brewery, in Cornwall and move production of its beers to other breweries, with the loss of 40 local jobs. Also, the iconic Marston’s brewery in Burton is also now threatened with closure with the loss of 300 jobs.

“With the Rebellion Beer Company now employee owned, this won’t be the fate of the Rebellion Brewery, and more than 75 jobs are safe in Marlow,” said Tim Coombes.
