Beer Today’s regular round-up of news in brief: new releases, venue openings, event announcements.

Indie Rabble Sensible

Sensible Beer Name (3.4% ABV) is the memorably-monickered new cask pale from Indie Rabble. “A regular told us they love our beers, but prefer when we use sensible beer names,” says the brewer. “So we thought, well, that’s a red rag to an owl! This cask pale is hopped with El Dorado and Tango. Expect pineapple, watermelon, grapefruit, and orange zest from this crisp bright and refreshing session pale ale. It’s a hoot.”

Electric Bear Turntable

Light, refreshing, and sessionable, Turntable Turnin’ is a 3.4% ABV session pale from Electric Bear. With sweet mandarin up front, a smooth mouthfeel keeps everything in tune, before a subtle bitterness cuts through on the finish, like a twist of citrus rind.

Pomona Island Lab

There’s a fruity theme to two Pomona Island releases this week. I Was Working in The Lab Late One Night is a blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry gose, coming in at 5% ABV. Intense forest fruit on the nose is followed by flavours of sweet and sharp blueberry, candied blackberry, with earthy, rounded notes and body from the raspberry and a tart finish, lifted by sea salt.

The Bravery to Miss is a 6.5% ABV chocolate and banana stout with an aroma of sweet, overripe banana. On the palate, you get rich milk chocolate, notes of banana pudding, and a long indulgent finish.

Left Handed Endless

There are two new hazy brews from Left Handed Giant this week. Endless Spaceways is a 5.5% ABV DDH hazy pale hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Galaxy. The malt bill includes jumbo oats and flaked spelt. Expect plenty of tropical sweetness upfront, beams of passionfruit and peach, a hint of ripe pear from some Simcoe Cryo, and a bolt of sharp citrus through the finish.

You Are Flying, a 6.5% ABV hazy IPA, features Simcoe and Citra. The Citra brings a wealth of tangerine and passionfruit, while Simcoe lends an apricot and blackberry character. There’s a hum of fresh spruce from the pair combined.

• Bishop Nick have announced the return of their Revelry Day, on Father’s Day, 21st June. As well as a real ale bar, the brewery will have a hog roast, ice crem, live music, and children’s entertainment. Entry will be free, and there will be free parking.

• A chocolate ginger tiffin stout which was brewed for International Women’s Day will be launched at Balance taproom, in Manchester, on 17th April. Renee, from Balance, was involved in the brewing of Gaia, which took place at Tartarus. Gaia’s a rich and luxurious dark beer brewed with 10kg of fresh ginger and 40kg of dark chocolate buttons. Launch tickets are available here.
