Oars Up! ahead of a charity Atlantic crossing

Sea Change Atlantic’s ocean rowing boat will be docking at Firebrand Brewing Co in Launceston tomorrow (3rd October) ahead of an epic journey.

Firebrand Oars Up

The four-person crew is preparing to row 3,200 miles across the Atlantic in January, from Lanzarote to Antigua, rowing in two-hour shifts for around 50 to 60 days.

Tomorrow, members of the public will have the chance to see the boat up close and meet members of the crew, who will talk about the realities of spending weeks at sea in a tiny rowing boat. From the physical demands of rowing around the clock to the practicalities of eating, sleeping and living on the Atlantic, all will be revealed.

The event also marks the launch of Oars Up!, a new 4.5% ABV transatlantic pale ale brewed by Firebrand in support of the Sea Change Atlantic fundraising mission.

The beer is brewed with English Harlequin and American Mosaic hops, with mango, passionfruit, and citrus flavours, and is available in both 440ml cans and on draught. Firebrand will donate 10p from every can sold and 5p from every pint sold to Parkinson’s UK, one of the charities being supported by the Sea Change Atlantic crew.

The crew’s wider fundraising ambition is to raise £100,000 for charity. Sea Change Atlantic says the challenge is about more than the row itself, with the team aiming to raise awareness and funds for causes connected to health, wellbeing and the environment.
