It’s just occurred to me today on this glorious spring day. It was a similar day in early spring 2015 when Aileen and I were walking up to Lady Bantry’s Lookout above Glengarriff and we had one of those epiphany moments. During the walk to the top and back to the car we had laid out the plans to bring our own craft beer to market. We immediately set out to identify a brewer who would be willing to work with us and develop a beer, this was John Keane from Torc Brewery. On the 1st July 2015 we formed the company Antarctic Kerryman Supply Co. Ltd, we launched Expedition Ale on the 9th April 2016 to coincide with the launch of our expedition to South Georgia and commemorate the launch of Shackleton’s three life boats from the melting sea ice during the Endurance expedition. Now five years on we have our own small purpose built brewery and visitor centre in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, with a range of beers. Bringing a dream to reality.
