Former RTE star Ryan Tubridy has shared a museum recommendation to his social media followers ahead of the museum’s upcoming Autumn School.

The 23rd annual Ernest Shackleton Autumn School started up on Friday and is held for the duration of the weekend.

The museum, based in Athy, Co Kildare is a permanent exhibition devoted to polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

The Autumn School was established in commemoration of the explorers country of birth — Kildare, and has been running for 23 years.

A range of events are carried out over the weekend as part of the school including an exhibition curated by Hugh Turner; a masterclass with a master sculptor; an art workshop and much more.

Taking to Instagram on Friday afternoon, self-confessed historian Ryan shared a picture where he posed alongside the statue of the explorer which is situated outside the museum.

‘Good luck to all involved in the Shackleton Autumn School in Athy this weekend,’ the Dublin native shared.

‘Such a fascinating story,’ he added, before encouraging: ‘The Shackleton Museum is well worth a visit.’

Following up with some additional words of wisdom, Ryan shared a picture of himself behind the bar at Kenmare’s Tom Crean Brewery, alongside the late Irish seaman’s granddaughter Aileen and her husband, who run the bar.

‘Meanwhile, over in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, Shackleton’s old pal Tom Crean lives on in memory,’ Ryan shared.

‘His granddaughter, Aileen and her partner Bill run this remarkable brewery/museum (boozeum?).

‘Great stories, history and beers!’

It comes not long after the presenter and broadcaster shared a brilliant throwback of his young self when he was with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as he noted: ‘Once a nerd always a nerd.’

Rocking a striped shirt and light trousers in the black and white magazine photo, which was captioned ‘Alias Ryan Tubridy in Stratford-on-Avon,’ Ryan poked fun at himself — simply captioning the snap ‘once a nerd, always, etc…’

In September, the father-of-two’s time with RTÉ came to an end following the hidden payments scandal, making his 9am Radio 1 slot being filled in my a number of different well-known faces including Oliver Callan, Brendan Courtney and Maura Derrane.

A new host may be on the horizon, however — as betting has been suspended surrounding Kathryn Thomas being the potential new host.
