Beer Today’s regular round-up of news in brief: new releases, venue openings, event announcements.

Star Wars Day is approaching (May 4th, of course), and Brew York has two special to mark this year’s celebration. Storm Scooper (5.5% ABV) is a raspberry ripple ice cream pale, while Chewbaklava is a 7.5% ABV pistachio baklava imperial milk stout.

Bristol Beer Factory has two new limited edition IPAs available ahead of the bank holiday weekend. Lone Star (5% ABV) is single-hopped with Galaxy, while Northwest Crush (3.8% ABV) showcases Krush.

Bluestone’s International Women’s Day brew has raised £400 for Strut Safe UK. Let Us Know You’re Home XX, a 4% ABV hazy pale, has now sold out. Strut Safe is a UK-wide volunteer-run phone line that stays on the phone with users while they’re walking home, until they’re safely through the door.

Favorito is a new lager from Thornbridge, a Mexican lager with lime and salt, coming in at 4.5% ABV. It’s brewed with flaked maize for an extra crispy edge. It is hopped with Spalter Select and Hallertauer Tradition.

Shakedown, a 5% ABV cask-aged IPA, is new from Oakham. Hopped with US varieties, it is bright and bold, with stonefruits, citrus, tropical, and berry fruit hop flavours and aromas to the fore, plus earthy, pine resin notes.

Pomona Island have collaborated with Arpus Brewing Co, hailing from Latvia, on two new sours, both at 5% ABV. Might Sound Crazy is packed with a huge amount of pineapple, mango, and passionfruit, along with high grade, whole vanilla pods. There’s also vanilla in But It Ain’t No Lie, along with cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, and blackberry.

Beak have collaborated with Clapton Craft to mark the latter’s 12th anniversary. The beer is a juicy 6.5% ABV IPA. “Loaded with Strata, Citra, and Mosaic, this one is bursting at the seams with white grapefruit, ripe strawberry, and lush mango,” says the brewer. “Soft, hazy, and dangerously drinkable.”
