Beer Today’s regular round-up of news in brief: new releases, venue openings, event announcements. It’s all here…

Brentwood Old Tricks

Brentwood Brewing Co has brewed a cask ale for the Mikkeller Brewpub, in London. Old Tricks (4.1% ABV) was launched at its home brewery this week.

“It’s a super-refreshing, trendy, modern pale ale, bursting with Chinook, Karma, Krush, Dolcita, and Nectaron hops,” says the brewer. “You can expect bright, punchy, tropical vibes from start to finish. The malt used keeps things crisp, clean and extra pale.

“This extra special collaboration beer marks the first anniversary of brewer Joe leaving us to join Mikkeller Brewpub London, and brewer Neil joining us.”

Verdant We Play Nice

We Play Nice, a new 6.5% ABV NEIPA from Verdant, features the new Australian hop Luna. It has arrived courtesy of hop merchant BarthHaas, and the Cornish brewer is the only one to have it at the moment. It was developed by Hop Products Australia.

Verdant have got mango, dark berry and blackcurrant, sweet orange, and grapefruit, from Lunar, along with a hint of spicy citrus complexity. For We Play Nice they’ve paired it with Citra and Mosaic.

“Really soft body,” notes brewer James Heffron. “Saturated hop aroma. Rounded mouthfeel. Loads of ripe mango and dark berries. It’s bright, zippy, juicy, and a little wild around the edges — in the best way.”

Neon Raptor F G

Neon Raptor have reached the letter F and G in their continuing alphabetical series of collaborations.

Futuristic is a big (8.4% ABV) DIPA full of Citra, Nelson, and Motueka hops, for a fiesta of fresh citrus and tropical fruit. Frequent festival friends Folkingebrew, from Groningen, North Netherlands, came to Nottingham to make it.

Greene King Four Leaf
Greene King George Flagon

Greene King seasonal Spring Break is back, a 4.4% ABV golden ale sporting two pumpclips. Hoppy and light, with hints of peach, lychee, and tropical notes it can be branded as George and the Flagon for St George’s Day, or Four Leaf, to tie in with St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

“Spring Break is always a favourite with our drinkers, and we appreciate that they will be keen to enjoy the beer again,” said brand manager Amina Ali. “However, we have also considered that some pubs want to be able to showcase pumpclips tailored to special occasions, such as St George’s Day and St Patrick’s Day, when utilising a seasonal beer.”

Hydes Boat House

Hydes has announced a major £1.5 million investment to modernise one of its most iconic destination venues, The Boathouse at Parkgate, near Chester. The extensive overhaul of the premium dining pub, situated on the edge of the RSPB nature reserve, with magnificent views of the Dee Estuary, is expected to take three months.

The investment includes the creation of a brand-new outside trading area and a full interior modernisation. carefully considers the building’s history, dating back to circa 1850, ensuring that diners continue to enjoy the site’s unique character and stunning views over the estuary.

The investment will result in 25 new hospitality roles.

Oakham Hare Hedgehog

An enduring Oakham favourite, The Hare and the Hedgehog (3.9% ABV) was first brewed in 2012 and last appeared in 2023. Three big-hitting USA-sourced hop varieties – Simcoe, Chinook, and Columbus – combine in this punchily citrus, intensely dry, moreishly bitter session ale.

Brew York Hazy

Get a Little Hazy (5.1% ABV) is a new hazy pale ale from Brew York, inspired by the smooth, dreamy vibes of Crazy by Seal. It’s bursting with juicy mango and passionfruit, layered with white grape, soft citrus, and a gentle hint of dankness.
