Proper Intuition, inspired by two classic brews

Birmingham-based brewery Attic have teamed up with Cornwall’s St Austell Brewery to launch Proper Intuition, a 4.5% ABV hazy pale ale.

Attic St Austell

The beer will launch in Waitrose stores nationwide on Sunday (1st November). For Attic, which was founded in Birmingham in 2018, the Waitrose launch marks another exciting milestone as the brewery continues to grow and introduce its beers to drinkers across the UK. And the celebrations don’t stop at the beer.

To mark the launch, Deathrow Pizza, based at Attic’s bars, the taproom in Stirchley and The Barrel Store in the Jewellery Quarter, will be creating a limited-edition Cornish pasty-inspired calzone. The calzone will be available at both bars from 3rd to 8th November.

“We’re really excited to be working with St Austell Brewery on Proper Intuition,” said Oli Hurlow, co-founder of Attic Brew Co. “Proper Job and Intuition are two beers that have played a huge part in our respective breweries’ journeys, so bringing them together felt like a brilliant opportunity to create something new.

“We’re incredibly proud of our Birmingham roots, and it’s fantastic to see a beer created in collaboration with such an established Cornish brewery heading into Waitrose stores nationwide.”

Georgina Young, brewing director at St Austell Brewery, added: “Proper Job is an iconic beer that has been at the heart of our brewery for many years, so when the chance arose to collaborate with Attic, it felt like a natural fit. Intuition plays a similarly important role for Attic, making this a meeting of two much-loved flagship beers.

“It was great to work with Attic’s head brewer, Harry Gwilliam, on the recipe, combining our shared passion for brewing and innovation. Proper Intuition brings together the best of both breweries, creating a fresh, modern pale ale.”
