Pacifika Hoppy Pilsner

We do love a hoppy pilsner and this bright, sprightly pils has Irish roots with a particularly Pacific twist. We’re showcasing a brand new variety of extra pale Irish malt from Cork’s Malting Company of Ireland here, and the lean malt body makes a perfect canvas for our blend of punchy and expressive South Pacific hops. Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Wakatu are all grown near the Kiwi’s South Island homeplace; they bring lots of aroma and summer sunshine to that Irish malt. A beer to brighten any day.

Tasting notes
Colour/appearance: a whiter shade of pale, with light golden highlights.
Aroma: light fresh citrus and pine notes.
Flavour: this is a hop first pils, with bitter lemon lime citrus flavours, balanced beautifully by a clean Irish malt body. Best savoured cold on a sunny day. Will also work with clouds.
Aftertaste: a delicious bitterness on the palate which leaves you longing for another sip. And repeat.
Food pairings
Do you like a posh crisp? Thought so! Grab a few bags of O’Donnell’s crisps – Hot Honey Fusion may as well have my name printed on the back – tip into a sharing bowl (or don’t; we wouldn’t judge) and your sip + crunch set up is ready to go. Sticking with the aperitivo side of things, crunchy pretzels and this hoppy pils also make a very happy pairing. It’s a beer that will also go well with fresh goat cheese like the smooth, creamy St Tola log, bringing hoppy bitterness to highlight the floral notes of the cheese. And to finish, may we suggest a zesty lemon tart? Fresh citrus hops make a wonderful complement to the creamy lemon filling.
