Round Corner Brewing has launched a collaboration beer, created with Yakima Chief Hops. The Simcoe Experience is a 5.2% ABV American pale ale.
The partnership came about as the grower-owned global hop supplier was looking for three European breweries to trial its DynaBoost, formerly YCH 702 Trial extract, flowable whirlpool extract.
Yakima Chief Hops believed Round Corner’s brew team would be able to make an incredible hop-forward beer showcasing the jewel in the YCH crown, Simcoe.
Pouring a rich golden colour, the beer’s aroma is a cblend of greengage, ripe peach, and pine. Simcoe T90 added for flavour mid-boil gives a resinous and ripe stonefruit flavour. YCH 702 Simcoe is added to the whirlpool and delivers 56 IBUs of bitterness, as well as driving the fruit aromas. The beer is then dry-hopped with Cryo- Simcoe. Yakima Chief Hops’ new DynaBoost is a ten times concentrated whirlpool extract with zero losses. This beer has been packaged in both 30-litre kegs and 440ml cans.
“We were delighted to be chosen as Yakima Chief’s UK collaboration brewery on this project,” said Colin Paige, Round Corner Brewing director and co-founder.
“Only three breweries were chosen in Europe for this exciting project, and we are in esteemed company with To Øl, from Denmark, and Birrificio Lambrate, from Italy.
“We love Simcoe and use lots of it in our hop-forward beers like Steeplechase Pale Ale. This, though, was a great opportunity for us to do a single-hop varietal modern APA. We combined Simcoe T90s with the DynaBoost flowable whirlpool extract and dry-hopped with Cryo Simcoe, to show off what Simcoe is all about, and we just love the end product.”
Yakima Chief Hops marketing lead, Europe, Luke Kulchstein, said: “At YCH, we are always looking for the next innovation in hop science and the demand from brewers was clear — high intensity of flavour and aroma with minimal losses.”
