This week we have canned three fresh beers for you to enjoy over the bank holiday weekend. And with a heatwave forecast it’s a great time to stock up on some local brews to enjoy in the sunshine!

Firstly, Mourne Mist Pilsner returns after a short break. You know Mist, our multi-award winning Pilsner lager. It’s a beautifully balanced beer with a delicious biscuit malt character and the unmistakeable floral and herbal hoppiness of the Czech Saaz variety. Just in time for the reopening of hospitality in NI we have also filled some kegs and we’re looking forward to enjoying some fresh draught pints in Wine and Brine, Moira; The Cuan, Strangford; and the Old Dairy, Glenoe in the coming weeks.

Screamers is a West Coast Pale Ale at a sessionable 4.2% alcohol by volume. Well hopped with punchy American whole hops in the kettle, it has a refreshing citrussy bitterness which we’ve balanced with a touch of Amber Malt. With Citra, Simcoe and Ekuanot in the dry hop, this is a proper West Coast brew with aromas of grapefruit and pine. Screamers is also a VS 5a grade climb on Slieve Binnian North Tor.

Idlewild is a New England-style Pale Ale at 5.3% alcohol by volume. Pouring hazy yellow with a fluffy white head, this is a full bodied and aromatic hoppy ale with low bitterness. Dry hopped with Citra, Cascade and Centennial, this beer is bursting with juicy hop flavour. Idlewild is also an E6 6b grade climb on Slieve Bearnagh, framed dramatically on the label by Darren McPolin.

All the beers are up on our webshop now. Order by 9am Thursday for chilled delivery before the weekend (island of Ireland excluding Donegal). Cans will be making their way to good bottle shops across NI soon via Nelson Sauvin.

And finally, this is the last blog post from me. After nearly six and a half years at MMB I’m leaving for pastures new at the end of this month. As a drinker of our beers you won’t notice any difference – pretty much all of our beers that you’ve enjoyed over the last three years have been brewed by Gareth, and he knows the brewery even better than I do these days!

I’d like to thank Connaire for giving me the opportunity to brew some lovely beer in his shiny new brewery back in 2015. Huge thanks also to Gareth for his support and for everything he has brought to the brewery over the past three years. Mourne Mountains Brewery really wouldn’t be the same without him. And thanks to Darren for his social media wizardry and invaluable help with the day-to-day stuff.

A big thank you to you too. If you’ve ever bought and enjoyed Mourne beers, come to a taproom or tasting event, or even liked a tweet, thank you for your support. It means a huge amount to me. I’ll be on the right side of the bar at the next MMB taproom so please say “Hello”. I might even buy you a pint.
