Beer Today’s regular round-up of news in brief: new releases, venue openings, event announcements.

Northern Monk are continuing their Patrons Project series with artist Dan Mumford, collaborating with Moonwake, too, on the brewing of Edinburgh, a 7.4% ABV salted juniper IPA. “There are so many iconic flavours in Scotland that we could have worked into the beer, but ultimately decided to pay homage to one of the country’s more underrated spirits, gin,” says Northern Monk.

Seven Bro7hers have secured an ASDA listing for their 7.5% ABV double IPA Krush, brewed with hops of the same name. The new US varietal, produced by Yakima Chief Hops, delivers a fruit-led profile of mango, peach, citrus, and berry, balanced with a resinous finish. “This is another milestone for us, as Krush is the highest ABV beer we’ve ever had listed in retail to date,” brewery director Kit McAvoy.

Thornbridge has collaborated with Morrisons on a mango variant of its famous Jaipur IPA. “We think [mango] pairs brilliantly with the powerful flavours already found in Jaipur, adding a bold and juicy tropical note,” says the brewer.
• JW Lees has purchased the Royal Oak pub, in Glossop, Derbyshire. The venue has been closed for several years, and will re-open following an investment of more than £500,000.

Blossom, from New Bristol, is a 4.8% ABV hazy pale created with Brewser. It’s “packed full to the brim with juicy, tropical fruit notes,” say the brewer. “A very sessionable fruit bomb!”
• J D Wetherspoon is opening a third venue at Heathrow Airport this summer. The pub will be named after jet engine pioneer Sir Frank Whittle.

Kirkstall have collaborated with DMC on Ostara, a 4.2% ABV lemon and ginger pale. Named after the pagan festival of Ostara, which celebrates spring and fertility, it utilises lemon puree and cold-pressed ginger, adding warm and zesty flavours to the refreshing springtime pale.
• The Old Horse pub, in Leicester, has been re-opened, a joint venture between Everards and The Beautiful Pubs Collective. “This project represents one of our most ambitious redevelopments to date,” said Beautiful Pubs Collective owner Sam Hagger.

Vibrant Forest’s bitter Canopy (4% ABV) has been added to the brewer’s core range and renamed Dapple. Built on a malt base of Maris Otter, it is hopped with British-grown varieties and fermented with an English ale yeast strain.
• The owner of the UK’s highest pub, The Tan Hill, in Richmond, Yorkshire, is taking on The Station Inn, in Ribblehead. Andrew Hield’s small estate also includes the Green Dragon, in Hardraw.
Neon Raptor have reach the letters H and I in their alphabetical series of Beeriodic Table of Elements collaborations. Handshakes, created with Switzerland-based Hoppy People, is a 5.5% ABV ultra-hoppy NEIPA. Nelson, Riwaka, and Nectaron hops give kiwi and honeydew melon vibes. Incoherent, made with Mexico’s Interstellar, is a 6% ABV ice lolly sour, full of strawberry, blackcurrant, vanilla, and chocolate flavours.
