Tributes to Heriot-Watt chancellor and grain specialist

Those involved in the world of brewing have been paying tribute to Prof Sir Geoff Palmer, a grain scientist who was chancellor of Heriot-Watt University.

A campaigner for racial equality, he was also a historian who raised awareness of Scotland’s links with the slave trade.

He did much to make Heriot-Watt University the internationally-recognised research centre for brewing and distilling it is today. In 2021, he became the university’s chancellor.
