The historic Red Lion pub in Leystonstone, London, has re-opened following an extensive £750,000 refurbishment by Urban Pubs & Bars.

Steeped in history, the Red Lion has been a cornerstone of Leytonstone since 1870, with a pub existing on the site since 1670.
Through the decades, it became an essential part of London’s music scene, hosting some of the world’s most iconic bands. The likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who, Genesis, Yes, and Roxy Music all played there in the 1970s.
The refurbishment includes work on a 10-bedroom boutique hotel above the pub. The Grand Ballroom, a spectacular upstairs function room accommodating up to 350 guests, is perfect for weddings, live performances, and private events.
There’s also a second function room, for more intimate gatherings of up to 70 guests. A revitalised beer garden now features new covered booths and striking street-art-inspired murals.
At the centre of the refurbishment programme is the return of what Urbans says is a truly exceptional pub experience. A carefully curated menu features locally sourced food, craft beers, fine wines, and the Red Lion’s renowned Sunday roasts.
Chris Hill, managing director of Urban Pubs & Bars, said: “The Red Lion is one of East London’s most beloved pubs, with a history that few can match. From legendary gigs to being at the heart of the community, it has a story worth preserving.
“This refurbishment was about honouring that legacy while ensuring the Red Lion is once again one of London’s must-visit pubs. We’re thrilled to welcome guests back for a drink, a meal, or even a stay in our boutique hotel.”
The Red Lion will host an official launch party on Thursday, 27th February.
