A pub in London’s Fitzrovia, with literary connections, has re-opened following an extensive refurbishment by Nicholson’s Pubs Collection.

The Wheatsheaf has a rich history, particularly as a popular haunt for London’s Bohemian set in the 1930s.
It’s known for attracting literary figures like George Orwell and Dylan Thomas, and for being the place where Thomas met his wife, Caitlin Macnamara.
The pub was built in the 1930s in a mock-Tudor style, to replicate a former building that had stood on the site since 1738.
Retaining the pub’s unique characteristics and charm, the interiors have been given a modern lift. Inside, the pub has undergone a full remodel with an expansion to the upstairs space. Now called The Orwell Room, this area hosts a second bar, dining room, and a space that is bookable for events and business meetings.
The pub serves a superb range of cask ales — including their own Nicholson’s Pale Ale, brewed by St Austell Brewery — with guest craft beers on rotation throughout the year. Expect to see Henry Westons Cider, too.
