Beer Today’s regular round-up of news in brief: new releases, venue openings, event announcements.

Track Good Work

Todd and Matt, from Good Word Brewing, in Georgia, stopped by at Track when they were in the UK to collaborate on a first for the British brewer, a Tmavý Ležák, or Czech dark lager. With a decocted mash, it was hopped with the classic Saaz, adding herbal, spicy notes to contrast the rich cocoa, caramel, and coffee malt character. The resulting beer is Letná (4.6% ABV).

Brew York Caribbean

The latest in Brew York’s series of barrel-aged Empress Tonkoko beers is a Caribbean Coffee variant. The base beer is a bold imperial milk stout, luxuriously smooth, with lactose sweetness, aged in rum barrels to soak up warm oak and subtle spirit nuances.

This iteration is infused with generous amounts of rich Caribbean coffee, and spiced with warming ginger and aromatic cinnamon. It delivers an intense, layered punch of roasted beans, chocolate undertones, and subtle spice.

Left Handed West Country

Left Handed Giant have collaborated with Woodshedding on West Country Pale, a 4.2% ABV pale ale hopped with Simcoe and Saphir. The recipe features heritage Plumage Archer from Warminster and raw wheat from Gothelney Farm in Bridgwater, part of the South West Grain Network, to ground the beer in the land that inspires Woodshedding’s approach.

Left Handed Giant’s hopping regime brings a vibrancy and freshness from the wider world of hop farming. It combines a crop of Simcoe, selected from this year’s harvest, with the spicier, floral notes of Saphir.

Hop Union Whakapapa

Hop Union have tweaked Whakapapa, their 4.2% ABV New Zealand IPA, and now it’s in can, too. Extra pale and Vienna malts build a light, crisp backbone, while Nelson Sauvin and Nectaron hops deliver white grape, citrus zest, and ripe peach. It’s dry-hopped for vibrant aroma and a refreshing finish.

Pomona Island Massive Park

It’s a Massive Park, a 5% ABV pale, is a collaboration between Pomona Island, That Beer Place, and Chester Craft Beer Expo. Hopped with Cryo Mosaic, Strata, and Citra, it offers passionfruit and pineapple aromas, with notes of lime zest and ripe mango on the palate.
