Next on our Pub Spotlight series is the well known and much loved Mother Mac’s pub in the heart of Limerick city. The Mother Mac’s we know today opened in December 2015, but the building has existed since at least 1787. It has previously been home to various pubs, merchants and shops. It has a distinctive round shape, and was previously known as “The Round House”.

Mother Mac’s is renowned for supporting small/local Irish-owned producers, with both food and drink sourced mostly as local as possible. They currently have 25 beer taps, with 15 dedicated to microbreweries. Some of those are permanent and some are rotational: a commitment to microbreweries you won’t see in many Irish pubs! You can see their beer menu on Untappd, which they keep regularly up-to-date.

Local breweries Treaty City and Western Herd usually feature prominently in their beer menu. They also have an extensive spirits range which includes local distillery Thomand Gate.

Look out for their popular “meet the brewer” events, which are usually in the pub but sometimes online. They have also previously held food pairing evenings. This is where local food producers and brewers call in to chat about pairing their food and beer.

Mother Mac’s is a very popular, friendly, vibrant pub. They obviously take a lot of pride in supporting local producers. They put a lot of effort into their drinks range and encourage their customers to try them. Do you need any more reasons to visit?!
