This is the first post in the #DrinkIrish Pub Spotlight series. These posts highlight the great pubs of Ireland that do well at supporting local drinks producers. More on why it’s good to support small local producers in a previous post here. First up, it’s Kavanagh’s Bar & Venue in Portlaoise.
Established in 1869, Kavanagh’s is the oldest family-run pub in Portlaoise. It’s an award-winning live music and comedy venue, but also a really nice pub! It has also been recently renovated with new furnishings and a new beer system.
They also do a great job of supporting local Laois breweries Ballykilcavan and 12 Acres. They have one permanent tap each for Ballykilcavan and 12 Acres and one rotational tap — making sure they have plenty of variety!
Currently, Ballykilcavan Long Meadow IPA is on rotation, and 12 Acres Pallet Jack IPL has been on in the past. Two excellent beers!
Be sure to pop in for a pint if you’re in the area!
