Orbit red ale designed to match Japanese dishes

Orbit Beers will launch their annual Red Ale on cask from 13th October, as part of their White Label Series of seasonal releases, which explore the more experimental side of their brewing.

Orbit Red Ale

Brewed in collaboration with Hakata restaurant, in Bermondsey, it was created to pair perfectly with Japanese cuisine, in particular, ramen dishes.

The beer has a distinctive, unique characteristic from Sorachi Ace, the hop variety developed in Japan in the 1970s. Deep red in colour, this hoppy ale has a malty, caramel base, with an abundance of hop character. Sorachi Ace hops provide hints of coconut, lemon, dill, coriander, and a touch of oak, with accompanying Citra hops delivering a hit of grapefruit citrus.

The trade release will be on 13th October, followed by a public release at the Orbit Beers taproom on 15th October. Bottles will be available from the taproom, Orbit’s web shop, and Hakata Restaurant.

“We’ve dabbled in cask before with styles like our English IPA and Dead Wax London porter, but this year we’ve chosen one of our favourite seasonal releases that really suits the format – the red ale with Sorachi Ace and Citra,” said Robbie Sykes, general manager at Orbit Beers.

“Cask gives us a chance to work with some of London’s fantastic cask-focused pubs that we don’t often reach, and to brew a batch of beer designed for a dispense system rich in British heritage.”

Inspired by white-label records shared with DJs to test new sounds, Orbit’s White Label Series is a collection of one-off or seasonal experimental beers designed to explore new flavours and gauge drinkers’ reactions.
