Polly’s has launched The Pilot Series, an ultra-small-batch series of webstore exclusive beers made on its pilot brew kit.
The equipment allows the Polly’s team to get creative, experimenting with flavour profiles and combinations that can’t be executed on the main brew kit.
“No gimmicky names or obscure references are at play here,” says the brewer. “This is purely about one thing — the beer and the beer alone. Each batch gets a number and a style — that’s it.
“To be the best brewery in the world — still our pipeline goal — we need to be able to produce more than just pale and hoppy, and this series is going to be a first dip of our toes into pushing our beers beyond the comfort zone of our hop-forward pales and IPAs.
The first two beers in the new series, launched this week, are 1.1 West Coast Lager, and 2.1 Cold IPA.
1.1 comes in at 5.6% ABV, has been hopped with Chinook, Citra, and Magnum, and fermented with Nova lager yeast. 1.2 (4.8% ABV) has been single-hopped with Citra with the same yeast. Both beers make use of Simpson’s milled extra pale ale malt.
