Double Irish Double IPA

Eight Degrees Brewing - Double Irish Double IPA

Using premium Irish malted barley, the elegant malt profile of our Double Irish Double IPA allows us to showcase all that’s great about New World hops. Chinook and Simcoe join Citra and Amarillo in a delicious showcase for these heavy hitting hops. Expect a tropical fruit explosion with plenty of mischievousness thrown in. Big, bold – and naturally adventurous.

Style: Double IPA
Malt: Irish pale ale malt, Carapils, wheat.
Hops: Loral, Cascade, Simco, Citra, Amarillo. Dry hopped with Simco and Chinook (using oil-enriched extract from Yakima Chief’s FWD programme.)
ABV: 7.0%
IBUs: 72

Tasting notes
Colour/appearance: solid gold. A firm white head with stubborn lacing.
Aroma: Passion fruit jumping out of the glass from the start, lots of sweet stone fruit at the midpoint, spice notes coming in at the end. Lovely, bright aromas.
Flavour: Upfront bitterness, followed by a juicy, fruity middle – lots of tart apricot here – with a grapefruit and pine finish. A deliciously full mouthfeel.
Aftertaste: Think grapefruit studded with pine needles.  In a very good way.

Food pairings
The Double Irish is a superb beer for food. The deep Kashmiri chilli heat of tandoori chicken works beautifully to complement the fruity bitterness or head to China where the sweet / savoury / spice flavours of char siu (Chinese barbecued pork) brings a delicious contrast to the party. There’s always the option to go old school with the grilled gammon and pineapple that pops up in Graham Herterich’s latest cookbook, Cook. Try it with with the butternut, coconut and tamarind stew in Ottolenghi’s Comfort – bitterness to cut through the coconut, fruit to complement the sweet vegetables and enough body to stand up to the spices. Finally, finish with a carrot cake, one that involves a lot of pineapple and cream cheese frosting. Taste sensation guaranteed.

Availability: 500ml bottles, limited draught.
Launch Date: November 2024.
