Davenports Brewery, founded in Birmingham in 1829, are adding a new brand to the pub estate — British & Best.

The first pub to be opened under this name is The Queens Head, on Steelhouse Lane. It opened its doors on Friday, following an extensive renovation.
Welcoming and timeless, the British & Best palette includes British Racing Green, a heritage colour, and the traditional warmth and glow of copper across an imposing bar. There are cosy, private leather booths, and moody black-panelled walls to create comfortable, intimate spaces.
The theme continues through the food menu, from the jug of liquor with a London-style pie, to bread and butter with fish and chips. There is even a jug of gravy and Guinness batter bits with chip butties.
The drinks offering includes Davenports brews, paired with dishes on the menu, as well as ales from brand partners.
An outdoor Guinness terrace to the rear of the pub leans into Davenports’ association with Guinness. They don’t just serve it on the bar they used to bottle Guinness under licence in 1905, and the original label artwork is displayed in various areas.
“Davenports, with all its rich and pioneering heritage, is truly best placed to serve up a British & Best brand, drawing on what people really want when visiting a great pub,” said Katie McPhilimey, brand and marketing director at Davenports.
“The décor is very special, with a beautiful imposing copper bar. It is moody yet welcoming, a space for everyone, whether that be a private booth or great social space to mingle with friends indoors, or outdoors!
“Our centuries-old association with Guinness is also honoured through our Guinness branded burger, which is worthy of its own Instagram page! In today’s challenging world, the comfort, consistency, familiarity, and quality of a British & Best pub is just what customers need.”
