Manchester’s Balance Brewing & Blending has collaborated with Pellicle magazine on a trio of beers celebrating the publication’s sixth anniversary.

Balance Pellicle

The beers are designed to emphasise Pellicle’s innovative and wide-ranging approach to food & drinks writing.

“We had such a good time blending these with Matt and Katie, and we think the beers have achieved, and exceeded, what we designed them to be,” says the brewer. That’s editor-in-chief and co-founder of Pellicle, Matt Curtis, and deputy editor Katie Mather.

The beers are now available on Balance’s webshop. A few kegs of each beer will also be making an appearance at the taproom, and at some festivals across the summer!

The beers

Ruin (5.1% ABV), a gin botanical wild beer
For Ruin, we took used botanicals from White Peak Distillery and infused the character of their house gin into this beer. The aromatic character of this beer is unbelievable and unlike anything we’ve tried before. There’s a complex and harmonious mix of citrus, juniper, and florality. (Brewery notes)

Plonk (6% ABV), a wine-inspired wild beer with damsons
Inspired by natural and orange wines, Plonk utilises a blend of aged damson beer and an unfruited barrel. It pours a subtle pink, with aromas of apricot skin, almond, and peach.

Bine (4.5% ABV), a fresh hop saison
For Bine, we used fresh UK Cascade from Hukins Hops. Our first fresh hop saison is full of complexity, with sharp lemon peel and blackcurrant notes on the nose. The sharp citrus hits on the palate, too, along with earthy spice and oily fresh hop character.
