Sorghum brewing is not widely practised outside Africa, despite being the main ingredient of beer on the continent. This leads to some wariness on the part of brewers about what to expect if they experiment.
Steve Beauchesne from Beaus Brewing outlined the main challenges of introducing sorghum to a modern brewery – and how they can easily be overcome – during our chat about the Sorghum Brewing Challenge put together by Yakima Chief Hops and Rwandan brewery Kweza.
Kweza have teamed with Yakima Chief Hops to make a unique offer in order to encourage people to experiment with making beer with sorghum. One of the main things they’ve found is that people don’t know where to start or what hops work best with sorghum.
So they’ve worked to identify a hop bundle that works well with sorghum and is very flexible. Now they want brewers to try it out.
Brewers can get a 40% discount on the hop bundle, a resource pack or recipes, artwork, and tips and techniques, as well as a way to work with the experienced brewers in Kweza.
