Queer Brewing, the UK’s first queer and trans-owned brewery, has announced it will close its doors at the end of July.

Established in 2019, the company also operates a taproom at its base in East London. It was named diversity champion of the year at the 202 SIBA Business Awards.

“We know that there’s a certain irony in making this announcement at the start of pride month, our busiest time of year, and we realise that this may come as a surprise,” said founder Lily Waite-Marsden on social media.

“We are in the fortunate position to be able to close on our own terms, instead of going into administration. This means we have two months to enjoy the final stages of this camp, queer, amazing little brewery together.”

Lily added: “We’re busier than we ever have been, the beer’s tasting better than ever, we’re exporting to countries we could only have dreamed of a few years ago. And, you know, everything seems like it’s working.

“But, behind the scenes it’s been really, really difficult.” As other companies are sadly finding, in this economic climate, trading is not viable.

Keep an eye on Queer Brewing’s social media for news of “special releases, events, and fun merch to go out with a bang”.
