A stout by a champion homebrewer has been on sale at The Pembury Tavern, in Hackney, the flagship pub of Five Points Brewery, where the beer was made.

Stuart Hubbard’s oatmeal stout Meteor was named the best homebrew beer in the UK at the SIBA Homebrew Beer Awards earlier this year.
As well as the plaudits of being named the best in the UK and receiving an award in front of the professional brewing community, the prize included having the beer brewed on a commercial scale at Five Points Brewing Co, in Hackney.
“Greg and the team here at Five Points have been super welcoming, and the brew has gone off without a hitch,” said Stuart on the brew day. “I can’t wait for people to try it.
“The beer itself is an oatmeal stout, which I’ve evolved over time, but the idea behind it is to get a stout that has those subtle chocolate and coffee flavours backed up by fruit flavours of raisin and fig. Something that is smooth and fruity, and at 4.5% ABV really nice and sessionable.”
Five Points co-founder and director of brewing, Greg Hobbs, said: “We’ve brewed this on our pilot kit, so it’s going to be a pretty limited edition release, but it allows us to play around and try new beer styles that we might not otherwise be able to do — like Stuart’s great oatmeal stout.”

Now in its third year, the competition challenged homebrewers to brew a British dark beer in any style which, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, must use the iconic British Maris Otter malt.
Five Points, The Malt Miller, and Crisp Malt were official partners of the competition, with Crisp providing the malts needed for a 19-litre homebrew batch. Each entrant received the malt free of charge via The Malt Miller.
“It really is a delicious stout, and Stuart should be hugely proud of being named the best in the UK in what was a high-calibre competition,” said Barry Watts, SIBA’s head of public affairs.
The SIBA Homebrew Beer Awards 2026 will open for entries later this year. It is only open to SIBA homebrewer members. For more information on SIBA homebrewer membership, click here.
