A crowdfunder to save a Winchester pub at the heart of local grassroots music has succeeded and is now heading towards a new stretched target.

The Railway Inn has been a home to live music for more than 40 years. Like many independent venues, it took a big hit during the pandemic, and is still carrying a chunk of debt from that time.
The initial target of £35,000 has been reached, to pay off that debt. Hitting the stretch target will allow the owners to bring in a solicitor to help them negotiate their premises licence, so they can run more 16+ shows and open the doors to younger local talent.
“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for ages,” say the Railway team. “We believe in making music accessible — not just to those who’ve been around the block, but to the next generation of performers, fans, and DIY creatives.
“Being able to safely and properly programme events for under-18s would be a massive step forward.”
