For our 10th edition of our fresh hop Locavore, we have brewed a Dry Irish Stout sourcing the finest Irish ingredients – Wicklow Mountain Water, Hops from the 2023 Harvest on our hop farm and hop garden at the brewery and our own malted barley and wheat which was grown in the field behind the brewery.

Locavore is a beer that champions local ingredients, terroir and sustainability. Growing our own ingredients here in Wicklow is something that we are extremely proud of, allowing us to taste the fruits of the Wicklow landscape. We are very proud to be able to grow and harvest produce on the land of our home; Wicklow.

harvest day 2023

The 28th of September marked the day of the 2023 Hop Harvest for this year’s Locavore Winter Stout.

The hops were strung up in May and under Simon’s watchful eye they were at their full height with fully developed cones ready for harvesting. Getting up bright and early to beat the weather, Simon first cut down the hop bines at the hop gardens, followed by the bines at the hop farm which were transported to the taproom to be hand picked.

We were delighted to be joined by a group of more than thirty five enthusiastic volunteers at the taproom to help us with the hop picking. With plenty of coffee, beers and pizza to go around, the Wicklow Wolf team and our amazing group of volunteers hand picked over 40kg of this years hops including Challenger, Phoenix, Northdown and Northern Brewer.

The freshly hand picked hops were added straight to the lauter tun, with our volunteers up on the mezzanine to see how our Locavore Winter Stout all comes together behind the scenes. Thanks again to all of our incredible volunteers who came along and helped out on what was a fun, educational and social event.

Introducing Locavore Winter 2023, a Fresh Hop Dry Irish Stout brewed sourcing the finest Irish ingredients – Wicklow Mountain water, Hops from the 2023 harvest of our hop farm and hop garden at the brewery, and our own Malted Barley that we grew in the field behind the brewery. Locavore is a beer that champions local ingredients, terroir and sustainability.

Expect a full flavoured stout that is packed with roast malt flavours and floral hop bitterness. This dark, roasty stout finishes with a clean, smooth, dryness that will leave you wanting more.

Available now in the wild in all good independent off licences and at the Wicklow Wolf Taproom.
