This year Rye River Brewing Company celebrated 10 years in business. What better way to mark our 10 years, than to brew 10 special beers…10 beers for 10 years!
We asked our Head Brewer Bill to run us through everything we brewed over the past year. We were busy!
2024 saw us brew more seasonals than ever before! Turning 10 years old at the end of 2023 inspired us to think, “how better to celebrate than bring 10 beers out in our 10th year!
We ended 2023 by brewing Smashed Clogs DIPA with our friends Jopen. That meant we kicked off January 2024 in the Netherlands with a return collab! When I first met Michel from Jopen, we found ourselves drinking a fresh batch of Hopefenwiezen in the Hallertau Hop fields during Hop Harvest. We joked we need to brew this beer, and High on Hops was born. A Weizen-DIPA hybrid, we brought forward a beer that sparked great brewing conversations and delivered a crackin’ beer!
Our seasonal release calendar began in March with our favourite Hazy, Miami J IPA! This was our 7th batch of this beloved beer, and we personally look forward to rolling this beer out every year as sign of spring and the great things to come! Only a few months to go until Batch 8!
Spring also means a fresh sour! In March, our friends Cervecería Morenos from Mexico visited, and we brewed up Piñata Party, a Smoked Pineapple Habanero Chili Sour! The Morenos gang joined us for a tap takeover in Underdog culminating in an actual smashed piñata! The session was nearly as fun as brewing the beer!
In May we brewed an old favourite, Jigsaw Double Dry Hopped IPL. This refreshing lager is brewed and heavily dry hopped with Mosiac Hops. Teaming up with our pals at Yakima Chief Hops, we also trialed their new advance hop products, which allowed the mosaic to shine in this crisp IPL!
June brought back Intergalactic Yuzu! This citrus infused Gose was first brewed with our mates the Yeastie Boys, and it was a very welcome return to the shelves. A true summer sipper!
In July, we released two collaborations with our friends at Vocation Brewery. We brewed a NZ Cold IPA for their cask series Vocation and Friends, as well as Koru NZ Pale for our seasonal series. Koru was a balanced NZ pale showcasing Motueka and Riwaka Hops. Chur!
Poppels Bryggeri joined us in August to brew Round Feet IPA. Bursting to the brim with HBC1019, this IPA sparked a lot of interest as it poured in bars and at festivals. It was a memorable collab day too as we brewed the beer on the 4th of July and got to feast on brisket and pulled pork. Any excuse to light up the smoker! The next day we took the party to Cork and showed the Poppels team a bit of Ireland! Serious craic was had.
Brunch was a favourite of ours a few years back and 10 years of brewing demanded that this great beer get barrel-aged, creating Brunch Baltic Breakfast Porter! We teamed up with Boann Distillery, filling their freshly emptied Maple Irish Whiskey and Irish Single Malt Whiskey barrels with our lightly smoked coffee Baltic porter! If you haven’t tried it yet, grab one and find an excuse to pop the cork! It’s the perfect winter warmer for both celebrations and the long, dark winter nights.
Finally, we popped over to our friends at St James’s Gate to brew a beer with Guinness Open Gate Brewery at the home of Guinness! With their proclivity for roast and our love for hops, we brewed a Black IPA filled with Sabro and Talus hops. Talus is a hop we love in our Coastal IPA and thought it would be fun to showcase it in a Black IPA alongside that famous Guinness roast! Currently on tap exclusively at Guinness Open Gate, so try it before its gone!
Happy Holidays and we look forward to making some crackin’ beers in the new year.
Slainte!
