As we come to the end of another week, it’s closing time, alas, for another two breweries — Fallen Acorn, in Gosport, and Ferry Brewery, in Edinburgh.

Fallen Acorn

Fallen Acorn is to enter voluntary liquidation next week, blaming inflation, material costs, utility costs, and cashflow pressures on its decision.

On social media, the brewer said: “We’ll be forever grateful for your incredible support over the years. In addition, we want to thank the Gosport community, who have given us some truly amazing memories.”

The Awakening festival, with which the brewery is associated, will go ahead on 12th and 13th May. The festival has always been run as a separate entity to the brewery, in partnership with Quay West Studios. There’s information on the event and how to get tickets here.

Costs, the economy, and licensing delays are blamed for the demise of Ferry Brewery. It told its fans: “We would like to express our gratitude to our Ferry Family and our customers for your loyalty and support over the years. It has been an honour to serve you and our community, and we are grateful for all the memories and friendships we have made during this time.

“We have crafted some exceptional award-winning beers over the years and have enjoyed every minute. We shall miss it deeply.”
