Sharp’s Brewery has launched a limited edition pale ale, One Giant Leap, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Goonhilly Earth Station.

Sharp's Giant Leap

The beer will bring ‘out of this world’ flavours to the Lizard peninsula, in Cornwall, for the one night of celebrations on Saturday (23rd July).

One Giant Leap is a remake of a popular brew created by Sharp’s for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2019. The 3.6% ABV pale ale gets its name from Neil Armstrong’s iconic moment in 1969, which has a connection to Goonhilly. The station’s enormous Arthur satellite dish allowed the Apollo 11 mission to be transmitted across the Atlantic.

Sharp’s and the team at Goonhilly were keen to bring back the beer, which was so popular at the 2019 event, for the 60th anniversary celebrations taking place this weekend. This will feature acts providing live performances of some well-known artists, such as the Kaleidoscope Orchestra’s rendition of Daft Punk’s greatest hits, and the Dark Side of the Moon Experience, which pays tribute to 50 years of Pink Floyd.

Sharp’s head brewer, Aaron McClure, said: “We are really proud to be bringing back One Giant Leap to commemorate Goonhilly Earth Station’s 60th anniversary. Brewing this special beer initially for the 50-year anniversary of Apollo 11’s mission to the moon was a truly special task for us.

“The incredible views of the Arthur space dish alongside the backdrop of the stunning Lizard really makes it an event not to be missed. Come down to the Goonhilly 60 festival on 23rd July and experience some of the amazing live acts, which can be enjoyed with a One Giant Leap in hand.”
