Before we get started on the Fuerst Wiacek beer review, let’s get some background. Since starting in 2016 the two founders have looked to produce modern beer and describe themselves as adventurous with a focus on attention to detail. At this time they’re busy building a brewery in Berlin which should be open by the summer. In addition to this, they were also recently named best Brewery in Berlin and were awarded Best Beer in Germany for an IPA. Impressive stuff. Let’s get started!
German Movies
Style: IPA
Abv: 6.8%
First impressions?
The first beer is German Movies, a collaboration with Zagovor Brewery in Russia. Hazy and light yellow coloured with a thick large head once poured. It’s unfiltered leaving a fair amount of sediment in the glass. The aroma gives an immediate citrus punch in contrast to a spirit-like hint in the background.
How does it taste?
There is little carbonation. The flavour is a burst of citrus infusion from the citra, galaxy and mosaic hops and the mouthfeel is smooth, silky and mildly chewy.
What’s the verdict?
Smooth Mover
Style: IPA
Abv: 6.8%
First impressions?
Another fantastic beer full of citrus punch flavour and aroma from dry hopping with citra, loral and mosaic hops. However, I will say that my palate can’t tell the difference between this and the previous beer.
How does it taste?
The malt bill doesn’t appear too dissimilar and in spite of the variation of one hop, there isn’t enough to differentiate. Nevertheless, it is delicious.
What’s the verdict?
Everything Is Under Control
Style: IPA
Abv: 6.8%
First impressions?
I’m in danger of sounding like a broken record here but this beer is very similar to the previous two.
How does it taste?
I do detect a flavour of grape amongst the citrus which gives a lovely sweetness. Again, I feel that dry hopping with citra, mosaic and enigma gives a fantastic beer, but consequently not enough differentiation.
What’s the verdict?
Eat The Salad
Style: IPA
Abv: 6.8%
First impressions?
This beer, like the other three, is delicious but in contrast gives a slightly more subtle citrus aroma and flavour.
How does it taste?
Like the others it is dry hopped with citrus, but also vic secret which has given it a lighter profile. It is more carbonated and gives a lovely tingly mouthfeel and citrus aftertaste.
What’s the verdict?
Summary
In conclusion, these are four fantastic beers. They explode with citrus aroma and flavour and are excellent examples of a strong IPA. However, I was hoping to see more of a difference between the beers. In spite of this, it’s clear that they know how to make top quality beer. They also seem to be big fans of a collaboration and coupled with their new brewery coming on line soon, it’ll be interesting to see what comes next from these guys.
