Beer writer Melissa Cole and drinks cartoonist and founder of Pints and Panels, Em Sauter, have collaborated with UnBarred Brewery on a cold IPA.
Convivial (5.1% ABV) celebrates and champions women in craft beer. “This is our toast to the incredible work of all those who identify as women within the brewing industry, and a warm welcome to all women that are new to the glorious world of craft beer,” say the brewers.
On the palate, Convivial gives lively citrus notes from hand-zested oranges, layered over a base of clean, bright malt.
It makes for a refreshing, bitter finish, finessed by floral tannins from Earl Grey tea sourced from Brighton-based Bird & Blend.
In true Cold IPA fashion, Convivial is more hoppy and complex than a lager, and more crisp and bitter than a traditional IPA.
It uses a combination of UK and US hops, both for a herbaceous, juicy hop profile, and to celebrate the US and UK heritage of the women who have brewed the beer.
