Arran Brewery is back in action after a ‘cataclysmic’ boiler failure which has left it unable to brew for pretty much an entire year.
Head brewer Yorick Hinchliffe gets back in the swing of production
“We were fortunate to have our tanks full of beer after Christmas and were able to bottle at the beginning of the year, but without a boiler we simply cannot brew,” said a brewery spokesperson.
“We had multiple visits from engineers and multiple false starts where our boiler has seemed to be up and running initially and then change its mind halfway through a brew.”
But now a final repair by engineers last month meant production could re-commence. Brews of Arran Blonde and Dark were first to be worked on.
The next planned brew is British IPA The Brewery Dug which newly-promoted brewery pup, Freyja, will be overseeing, with many more in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, the brewery has been celebrating three honours at the World Beer Awards. This extends a long run of success in the competition, winning at least one award a year since the brewery was founded in 2000.
There was Scotland gold for Sleeping Warrior in the dark beer barley wine category and for Milestone Special Reserve in flavoured beer wood aged. Classic brew Arran Dark took Scotland bronze in the dark beer class.
